Equaliteach came to use to create a series of four videos highlighting the impacts of racism on individuals and how they are positively making a change to help break barriers.

At Origins Films we take racism very seriously and encourage charities like Equaliteach, who are inspiring and empowering people to create equal, diverse & inclusive environments.

Each of the four videos focused on an individual’s real experiences with racism and how it has impacted their lives. With such a delicate and emotive topic to convey, we ensured a safe space while filming the interviews.

We set up filming against a simple background, as it was important the focus was on the individual. Creating a lighting style that was subtle yet allowed the individuals to take centre stage as they told us their stories. 

We had a three camera set up, allowing us to filming multiple angles, such as wides and close ups simultaneously, negating the need for the individuals to have to repeat or do multiple takes – this was really important to us to as the interviews can be emotionally difficult for the individuals and filming like this ensured they only had to tell their story once. 

An authentic, emotive and honest tone was really important to capture in the videos, and so we decided to shoot cutaways ‘behind the scenes’ to highlight the reality of the set up around the interviews.
